Hi All.

Took the bike for a cheeky Friday afternoon spin last week. Somerset West to Franshoek was uneventful, with only the wind over Helshoogte and on the way to Franshoek making it interesting. Refuelled in Franshoek and then took a leisurely drive up the pass, wind ok till near the top.

Some roadworks otherside of the pass gave me the opportunity to take a pic of the sandstorms in what should be Teewaterskloof dam.

Then took Van der Stel pass to Botrivier, road in really good condition.

At Botrivier, took the jeep track along the N2, following the train track contour line, nice bit of fun, definitely the highlight of the trip!

Then onto the N2 and took the Elgin Valley road, didn't know the road at all, so was very happy when it became gravel again after a few k's. Stunning views...

Made a quick stop at Charles Fox MCC house for a longer break and tasted some really nice bubbly b fire heading off for the last bit of gravel before taking the N2 back to S-West.

Just what the doc ordered to go into a weekend!

It's a route I got from bikeroutes.co.za and the map is on google maps, not sure of the embedding will work....

The road from Botrivier doesn't have a name, just follow the map path as in the link and you'll get it - doesn't look like a road at all, you pass a sign that says: "No dumping" and you know you're on the right track.

Hi AF, done that a couple of times, good fun but just to short, luckily for me only 30 km's from home, let me know when you want to go, would gladly take you to the old Botrivier Pass http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/Smileys/default/icon_biggrin.gif
