I hear you and don't mean to shatter your dream but I don't think it will work. ZA is too small to manage a vehicle of that size. Imagine trying to negotiate that through some of the larger cities. Most campsites will not be able to accommodate the length. You will have to stick to the motorways for town to town driving. Its just too big.

Why?  Busses negotiate town centres on a daily basis. But the idea is not to spend time in any of the larger cities.
Yes. Campsites will be a problem. Just a dream so have not looked into it. Then again the idea is to have a self sufficient unit where you don't need camp facilities and can overnight anywhere.
To tour rather than camping. Imagine getting a driver and using it as a party bus.

I know where there is a Flatnose for sale. Think it will need a LOT of work though.

Wat is 'n flatnose presies?

Ek droom maar net. Nie geld om te koop of plek om te park nie.

Daai een wat jy gepost het het 'n bonnet. Platneus is daai wat so stomp is voor, soos 'n Kombi.

B_B,
I just saw the Gumtree advert what that was advertised for.. Moer thats a good price, hope mechanically it's all ok. I see it's got Mercedes Wheels on, so it's got some or other Hub converters etc. But, jaa, should make a nice camper, good luck and enjoy. You should be able to get a good ROI if you try keep it reasonably stock without too much mods, like watercool conversions etc.. But, at the end of the day, its your Bus and you have carte blanche pal.. Keep us updated.

regards

Al

Thanks G  :thumleft: It's come on quite a bit further lately. Bought a tent that attaches to the back and I built a drawer system in the back for a kitchen.

Where to get one? Heavy on fuel? 4x4? Always had this childhood dream of doing that with a Casper.

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

Oh yes, that would be an ideal project for a good classic Camper.  :thumleft: 8)
That solid side offers a lot more privacy. Mine was a Panelvan which had sliding windows fitted, but still has the flat side behind the drivers seat for a full height cupboard.
ONLY downside tho is the lack of roof elevation for a proper Camper. Although you can import, or if lucky, find a local roof like a Devon or Westy.

Contact Pierre at http://www.buggertransmissions.co.za/
He's a VERY capable VW specialist, if he can't do it, he should know someone who could.. Although it's not rocket science. I did my own bus myself.  :thumleft:

The kitchen sink must be inside.

Dayum, that is a lot of crap on that vehicle. Being prepared is one thing.  Going 200% overboard is another.  :eek7:

Wonder what a true Bedouin will have to say.
