Hi MS, these LC's have gear driven cams and do really make a lot of noise. The video sounds normal but you should pop past the closest dealer and let them check it out for you. Better to be safe than sorry.
The cams are chain driven.
Think its shaft driven?

No, not shaft.  They are chain driven.

All those nice videos of the engine's exploded view show both chains (from the crank) and gears (between the cams).  So you are all right (correct).  How odd for WD

Update to this: took it into BMW, mechanic had a listen and reckons something is a bit off but would like to hear it from cold start. Left it there over night and will feed back to me tomorrow/in the week. He suspects something to do with decompression?

So got the bike from the dealers. They are adament that its a completely normal noise. They have recorded it though in case something ever "does" happen.

So first the mechanic (who hear and work on these bikes every day) agree something does not sound nice, and the next morning they say it is normal,  :-\

Jip, and from your side make a note of date and person you had spoke to, just to make sure.

I had mine in today for it's first service (835 km) and also complained about the noise from right side tappet cover, it has been noted and we will follow up at next service if it makes it there without destroying it's self :eek7:
BMW 1150 Adventure (gone)
BMW HP 2 (gone)
Ducati 500 Pantah (gone)
1200 LC Trophy Edition (gone)

Let me know if anything happens, because then at least this is 2 recorded cases and we can complain to get them to investigate.

If it gets any  louder don't wait for the next service. Take it in. Maybe another bad batch of cams as with my 2016

My 2017 LC makes a very similar noise on start up for a second or two and then the ticking all but goes away.  Dealer checked and advised as normal. Checked with other owners and all are more or less the same.

Explanation I got and believe is the need for oil to circulate at start up and then just normal chain and gear dive clatter.

If the S10 had a similarly sophisticated motor it would sound the same  :imaposer:

I have the 2015-LC and same noise.
BMW tell me they all make a noise and there's nothing to worry about

My 2015 GSA does not make this noise. My old 2008 air cooled GS did, and it was quite pronounced.

The clicking can get pretty loud while riding. I can't believe the engineers would have been okay with it. Its soo odd
