I have a 2001 F650GS dakar with 86000km on the clock. I had this bike since 30 000km and not a days trouble in five years. I did all the maintenance myself including:
•Service every 5000km with new filters, plug and oil.
•Preventive water pump replacement at 45000km
•Replace fork seals 75000km (have fork boots)
•flush coolant, brake fluid and fork oil yearly
•replace brake pads, tyres,  when needed
•steering head bearing replacement (twice)
•preventive clutch cable replacement (spare fitted)

The bike also have a lot of extras.

But now I will need to do the following work in the near future:
• Check and adjust valve clearances
• Replace bearings - Wheels - Swingarm(and bushes) - Steering head
• Replace fuel filter (consumption is increasing slightly)
• Service (overhaul) rear shock
• New brake discs (front and rear)

Most of the labour I can do myself, but not the valve clearances and shock service.

Rough calculations for all of this is ±R10-12k

My dilemma. I have an itch for a new (bigger) bike. Do I sell the bike as is for R28-30k or do the maintenance and try to sell for R35k. Or do the maintenance and keep the bike, not scratching my itch.

What will you do?
