The Anti Women's Day SOB Ride
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:31:35 am »
First off, thanks to all the ladies that allowed their better halves to join me on this ride to the Klip.

Second, thanks to all the brave SOB's that joined as well.

I met up with Silverwolf and Kykdaar under the bridge on the N14, we headed towards Skurweberg for our first dirt of the day.  Nice to get the dust into the eyes so early.

At the Wimpy there were already hungry SOB's, and soon we joined them in a lekker beacon & eggs breakfast.

From there we left towards the 2nd canal, all 16 bikes!!

The canals are as usual - lekker, and now some farmers decided to make nice speed jumps for us.  :mwink:

Our 1st casualty was a eager SOB on a KTM overshooting a corner, sliding through the grass, come to complete stop safe and then to loose his balance and fell over onto Gryshond - that was moer funny!!

Then we lost Gryshond, Gunda & another when Gryshond needed a screw.   And to place the cherry on the cake, my Zumo decided to call it a day. ??? >:( Mors dood, moertoe!!  Doesn't want to start up, so now what??  Phone call from Gunda, get their coords, grab Dawie's Zumo, enter the coords into it, and off we went in search of the lost SOB's.

We all joined back together, and decided that a beer a Bakgat is just what we need.  Needless to say, we were not going anywhere fast.  From there we took the final stretch to the Klip.  By now Gunda was leading as he had the route, and Redrider & I played sweeper (sorry for the shower RR)  :imaposer: .

At Jericho Gunda took us straight to the Klip, and up we went (ok, most of us - next time for the guys that stayed on mother earth).  We were treated by the E-Dirt group (they had a social with the locals, and donated some money and equipment to the school) who rode up the STEEP section and made it look easy, except the guy on the blue bike that showed us how to slide down.

We headed back down, and I had to rush back home as I needed to be back by 14:00.  Gunda and the rest went for a beer or two.

Thanks guys, it was lekker.

No post the pictures!!!

Fear not O impatient "Ride is wothless. . . ." peeps - there were enough cameras, mine was just not one of them. Was in the pocket, but was too damn busy or shaky-scared to use it.

And I have a problem with Ryperd's Zumo. You guys know me. I am always at the back with the laggers and lazy, and next think I am promoted to ride leader as I was the only one with the track in a working GPS.

But you know? It was fun. Maybe inside this ole Gunda there is a leeedle beet of Valentino Rossi struggling to get out - at least as far as a scaredy old-timer on a KLE will let him. What I did find was that the sandy roads in the Jericho area are much easier when you are moving a bit faster than sweeper-speed and you dont have a cloud if dust obscuring the line.  I did not have even one reasonably exciting tail-walk.

And even the beakaway group that formed after I was the chief screwer of Grys's handlebar thingy was lekka - I had thought you were all ahead, and meantime you were the laggers - dunno how or where we overtook you folks. Suspect in Brits suburbia.

Thanks for the ride .

Have you done the front door with the dakar yet?

The guy that came off halfway up end then slid all the way down again.  Awful eerie sound of metal grinding on rock.
Wonder what he feels like today.

on a sad note ,on the way back outside brits a lad croseed the road to his father who called him from the oter side of the road, the kid looked right and ran with looking to his left an oncoming traffic... no chance ..left a business card with the police who was 3 cars further back an also saw everything , i may need to be a witness on this.

Actually the Dakar has the better gearing for the front door ;) It's the XR that you have to be careful of ::) She wants to pick up the front wheel and gooi you off big time. Stalled the bike once on my first day up the front door----SCARY :-[

From what I hear it was my buddy Mad Brad "ORSM" who dropped his WR450 on the rock...
Again.
Last time Ufudo had to fix the casing with some pratley steel when the gear shifter cracked it.

So he feels ok, done it before.
I have seen him make it up about 2-3 times and fall once, now twice I hear.

That grinding sound is hectic, normally means new handguards, new footpegs at least. Thats on an offroad, a DS bike is going to be scary damage.

Friend of mine saw a HP2 crash down there ??? Aparrently the story goes that he had to have the bike collected as he could not ride it home and the damage was a figure that looked like a cell number.

The rock has a way of allowing you in the front door and to climax at the top ::) and then other day's you just see your gat.

Do not try my luck to often nowday's. These bikes cost a arm and a leg to repair.

Thanks for a great ride, have not been out for a few weeks, so really looked forward to the day. I had to leave early to go to the rugby, so missed the rock, which was dissapointing. Trying to attached a few pictures without success. Hope these come out.

Thanks to Ryperd for organizing the ride  :thumleft:. We rode together on some gravel to the dam and I only have one thing to say to you......you belong on a KTM because you ride like a hooligan  :o  ;D

I had great fun and it was nice to see how comfortable the Transalp was  through the loose sandy sections. Sorry to the dog on the DR650, I did not mean to be windgat in passing you  >:D, but I am more comfortable on sand when going fast  :ricky:

Like I said - my bike is marked "Rally Touring" and not "Rockclimber" - so I stayed at the bottom and helped to jumstart a DL650 (It's a fookin Suzuki after all  :pot:).

After that I tried to keep up with Gryshond (DL1000) as he, I and Silverwolf (DL650) made a beeline for the R511 so as to be back in time for our various commitments.
