I don't think snow can be used as an excuse in Canada :deal:

I have read that if you travel in snow areas you should take emergency blankets and survival food +and drink in the car with you in case you are caught outside in the snow and can't be rescued for a day or two.  I have even seen YouTube videos of emergency heaters for rooms (and cars) using tea light candles and small clay flower pots...!

Damn Skippy! Truck is a happy camper up until -25 to -30. After that it just says no... With the -40 weather this week is uncanny how different things pop up all of a sudden. Immigrant was very supportive as he was lying on the couch watching Netflix!   :lol8:
Doors won't close fully on the truck- the locks only catch the first stop unless you really take a running swing to close it!
I have a James Bond diesel heater (Webasto) that runs off diesel and circulates the engine coolant to heat it up to operating temperate to make starting easier. Turns out there is a -40 safety lockout!  :eek7:
The foam inside the seat is a frozen brick at that temp.
Brakes work on the assumption that there will be friction and heat- interesting having a couple of seconds delay on stopping.
-40 you develop new oil leaks that magically disappear again at -25. Found a red pool of ATF in the snow- now cleared up with the nice warm weather we have now.

I went down the diesel route- Dodge Ram with the 5.9 Cummins motor. Truck is one of the highlights of being in Canada. We have decent bakkies now! Petrol V8's are the preferred engines for freezing temps as they are less temperamental in the cold. Diesel also freezes before petrol- new can of worms when that happens.

......now cleared up with the nice warm weather we have......
It’s pretty sad if we rejoice in a 5C temp change and call it “warmer”.
On my way to work @-35C my engine light came on, and truck refused to shift out of 3rd gear. Solenoids in the tranny froze up  :dousing:
It’s thawing out as we speak.....

Yup, that sure ain't Florida  :peepwall:  :imaposer:

But I guess that if I did live in that area I'd make a sideline job servicing and fixing the snow-blowers  :ricky:

Quite lucrative, snow-blowers in winter, mowers in summer. Year-round work  :thumleft:
Young enough to know I can, old enough to know I shouldn't, stupid enough to do it anyway.

Now you can see the reason why front doors to homes open INWARDS.
If they opened outwards, the slightest snow drift would leave you trapped inside the house.
Opening inwards, you can dig your way out.

Just this holiday me and my brother in law were discussing why some doors open inwards and other outwards.  That makes perfectly sense.  Thanks!
