Fuel smell, leak from around filler cap
« on: July 02, 2017, 10:23:03 am »
I just bought a 2013 R1200GS LC, and 30km's into it I was getting a strong fuel smell, I stripped all the plastics and noticed there is a leak from what appears to be the rubber near the return pipe on the filler cap. I stripped the filler cap and clean it and the rubber as this bike as seen some dirt.. but it still leaks. Now even when I move the bike side to side fuel leaks around the rubber?

Is it as simple as ordering a new rubber from BMW? Any advice???

Many thanks..

Hi There,
Mine had a similar issue.
What i figured happened with mine was the previous owner had fitted one of those tank bags with the quick release mounted around the fuel filler cap, when selling the bike they had removed the tank bag & the quick release mechanism, but failed to replace all the screws that hold the cap fitting down securely.......... :eek7: :eek7:
So i just bought the missing screws & replaced them,,,,,, voila ,,,,, sorted  :thumleft:

I've double checked seems all screws are firmly in place, hope it's just the rubber and not the tank... :'(
