Gear shifting problem anyone experience this?
« on: July 04, 2017, 07:57:12 pm »
Was coming home today on Allandale Road, stopped at the traffic light. Could not get the 1200gsa 2014 LC out of 6th gear,

Could this be because of the automatic gear shifter being faulty or gear box issues?

I eventually got it past 4th gear down to neutral.

This was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. My 2016 would get stuck in a gear and no matter what I did, it wouldn't budge. Took it to dealer, bike was there for weeks. Initially they wanted to replace gearbox, but after several software updates, they said the problem was solved. Bike also lost gear lever, several bolts, aux lights stopped working, stanchion issue, screen brackets broke twice, switches replaced etc.

Bike was sold before I could check if it was better.

Okay sorry to say but who stops at a traffic light in sixth gear.  You will always struggle to get it down into 1st for take off and does not matter what type of bike it is.

Agreed.  If already at a standstill and you are in 6th, it would be a struggle to get to first.

What I don't like about the LC, is that the gear indicator only registers what gear you're in once you release the clutch.

Also, I was going home on Friday and this LC in from of put his hazards on and stopped. I asked him what happened and he said his bike just went into limp mode??? So he restarted the bike and I followed him to our turn off at Beyers Naude.

It did it to me on the GS Trophy I got a a loaner. Maybe it's a quirk of the Trophy?

The gear box should not pack up in the first place! BMW have always been known for bullet proof gear boxes but it does not seem so any more! Not good!

Build by humans.  There will always be those that pack up.  The true test is how the supplier responds once an issue exist.  In this case, 100%.

Correct you don't buy a R220k bike and expect it to last a whole of 30k Kms, hence the phone call to BMW Motorrad head office. Explained my disappointment in the brand etc etc, they stood up and said no problem we will fly in a new gearbox for you sir!! Well played
