1290 R new owners
« on: July 06, 2017, 10:24:07 pm »
The guys who bought the stock 1290 Adventure R, with no extra software and stuff loaded from KTM, straight off the dealer floor, can you wheelie the bike with TC off or not?

Talking about a proper wheelie, not 300mm off the ground wheelie.......

Remember, the Demos the Dealers got, had ALL the extra software stuff loaded. So dont come tell me you popped a wheelie on a demo.....

Im not asking who can wheelie and who cant  >:D  :ricky:

Im trying to understand the new software that is on the 1290.

So feedback of guys who bought it, without loading the extra available software and foefies from KTM, would be appreciated

There is a good reason Im asking, but dont want to give it away by telling now.

So what you’re implying is that what you bought is not what you rode on your demo, correct?
This sounds like a common issue with KTM, same as all the new 2017 2 strokes that had zero carb issues on the demos but on the production units all the bikes ran up to sh!t  :pot:

I did not buy anything.

Reason Im asking the owners....

Demos was fully loaded with all extra stuff like Quickshifter, hillhold etc etc, but it clearly states that these are extra, its also listed as extras on KTM website.

Yet again, either nobody knows, or they dont care to tell  :imaposer:   :imaposer:

Is stock machine then set up for safety and not allowing front wheel to get above a certain height ?

I think only TC or an angle sensor can prevent a wheelie - I'm not aware of an angle sensor in the front to rear direction and to test if TC is completely off should be quite easy

TRACK RIDE MODE
TRACK ride mode
With the optional ‘Track Pack’, the track ride mode offers unlimited thrills. It features launch control, spin adjuster, free engine map selection and allows you to pull epic wheelies.

 Anti-wheelie off
This setting disables the anti-wheelie function of the MTC while letting the rider enjoy a beastly wheelie session. The function still guarantees quick acceleration thanks to the heightened traction control of the MTC.

 Launch control
The 1290 SUPER DUKE R is the very first KTM motorcycle ever to be equipped with launch control, which actively supports the rider during a racing start in the “Track” ride mode. Before takeoff, it keeps the engine rpm pitch perfect at the 6,500 mark. To rocket off into the distance, the rider just releases the clutch and keeps the throttle pinned. The launch control will maintain an optimum level of engine output, while limiting rear wheel spin and front wheel lift to ensure maximum acceleration. Fire in the hole!

 Spin adjuster
Standard traction control limits the engine torque when the system detects too much slippage at the rear wheel. The spin adjuster was developed so advanced riders on racetracks can use wheelspin to create drive out of corners when (slick) tires start to wear down. The system allows the rider to choose 9 levels of intervention of the traction control.
» Level 1 (minimum intervention) allows advanced riders to spin the rear tire at a level very close to riding without traction control while keeping the safety net of the traction control.
» Modes 2 to 8 allow the rider to adjust the maximum wheelspin to his or her personal taste.
» Level 9 (Rain) (maximum intervention) allows very little wheelspin and is an application for rain tires in the wet.

 Free engine map selection
The free engine map selection allows the rider to configure the EFI mapping and as a result the throttle response. The system provides a choice of 3 levels: Track, Sport or Street, with Track being the most aggressive one. After the mapping selection, the rider can also adjust the slippage of the rear wheel, as well as the wheelie mode and launch control and keep it stored in the system even after turning off the ignition.

What manic is referring to is that new R owners overseas simply cant wheelie their bike without paying for additional software. even switching off all driver aids possible, they stay on. Lots of frustration on the webs over this.

Not many new 1290 R owners here, and it would seem none of the limited number can wheelie. You should get a salesman to commit to "off course this bike can wheelie", buy it, disprove them and then have them install the additional software at their costs. Win win

I was told this by Salesman and also by KTM. And I believe them  :thumleft:

And yes, extra software needs to be loaded, at an extra expense, to be able to pull a wheelie.

I just thought any 1290 owner can confirm this, but it seems all 1290 owners ride with all electronics full ON, and scared of 160hp, that is why they dont know  :pot:   :pot:
