When riding north from Solitaire to Walvis Bay you will eventually encounter the Kuiseb Canyon.
The canyon is unlike your preconceived ideas of one. It is a landscape of repetitious geological formations that roll and roll into each other endlessly.
The road itself is mostly dusty gravel but at the bottom of the kloof, where the dry Kuiseb river meanders, it is tarred.

It gets damned hot in the Canyon and you are torn between a desire to get out of the hellish heat or riding the turns, rises and falls for as long as possible.
A must see!

Things to do:
The pass is inside the Namib Naukluft National Park, so expect beautiful vistas. Immediately after the pass on the Walvis Bay side you will encounter signs directing you to Canyon lookout points.
You will need a permit to leave the main road and enter the conservancy. Fortunately you will probably have overnighted at Sesriem and the permit they issued there is the same one you use here at the Canyon. Just make sure the date is correct.
There are no checkpoints but unlawful entry into a National Park is not something you should be doing in someone else's country ;)
