2017 Tankwa Cross Country GPS Navigational Rally
The event supplementary regulations have been submitted for permit application to Motorsport SA and entries will open soon.
Region:The event takes place in the Tankwa / Hantam region in the Northern Cape. Tankwa is known for its harsh environment, which will test and challenge both man and machine with the variety of terrain leveling the playing fields among the competitors.
With planning and work well under way, we are happy to say the routes are going to be epic.
The combined farm areas used for the routes amount to a staggering 140 000 hectares.
Objective:• To test all round skills.
• Test navigation
• Ability to READ the terrain.
• Race in one’s own safety zone and to anticipate.
• At the same time testing the competitor’s riding skills and endurance.
• To look after the machine and to finish.
Venue: One central Race Control and Village. Catering, camping, hot showers, flush toilets and bike wash bays provided at a minimum fee.
Dates & Distances: 22nd September - Time Trial & Race section 1 (Time trail of 60km’s and a 25km river special with DSP - Designated Service Point - at Race Control)
23rd September - Race section 2 (Marathon stage of 300km’s with four (4) outside DSP’s)
24th September - Race section 3 (Mountain stage of 110km’s with one (1) outside DSP)
25th September - public holiday to allow for days travel home
Classes & Entry Fee (Provisional):NB: All competitors will require a minimum of a MSA Club Licence as this is a fully sanctioned MSA event that complies with all rules and regulations.
Minimum Age - year in which a competitor turns 16 years old unless previously participated in the 2016 Tankwa X Country.
Rally Bikes (No outside refuel range)
R3 650 (includes road book)
Off-Road Bikes max 200 2T / 250 4T (Outside refuels)
R3 500 Off-Road Bikes Open max 300 2T / 525 4T (Outside refuels)
R3 500 Off-Road Big Bore – Minimum 550 cc / unlimited cc 4T (Outside refuels)
R3 500Quads Open Max 1000cc 4t (Outside refuels)
R3 500 GPS: COMPULSORY, equivalent of Garmin, Fortrex, Etrex 10, 20 or 30.
Extreme Dangers will be physically marked with triple Day Glo stickers and NO GO sensitive areas will also be marked.
Service Crews:Service Crews and supporters will be allowed access to four of the five outside DSP’s where they can assist their competitors to refuel or with repairs. No assistance is allowed anywhere else along the routes besides at Race Control DSP & DSP’s 2 - 5. These directions will be issued at the start of each day.
Outside Refuel: Optional refuels at approx. 65km’s
For those who would like to refuel themselves the fuel truck will take the next day’s fuel out at 6pm. Clearly marked fuel cans must be placed in the fuel impound before 6pm on Friday & Saturday evening.
