TANKWA X 500 RALLY

22 - 24 SEPTEMBER 2017

SPYSKAART

Now I'm hungry for more or less all of it.
Worth mentioning, the people organizing the catering is also responsible for the Calvinia vleisfees.  :drif:

I will not even bother schlepping a cooler box out there (it might melt) and then still making myself something to eat.

Besides, they offer us a unique opportunity to race in an area that we will not even be able to access under normal circumstances...
I suggest we support their initiative, and the fact that it is for a good cause will make you sleep better that night (that is Clive's course doesn't tire you out)

Awesome that means I can pack super light. I might have missed it, but will there be a bar too? :peepwall:

Maybe next year I'll have enough time to prep then the BRP can take part in the race
- you reckon that thing will pop a wheelie? We're about to find out, SLAP that pig!

It was another absolutely brilliant event hosted by the WCOC. Due some health issues and a minor operation 2 weeks prior to the event, I was unable to race this year but after looking forward to this event all year there was no way I was going to miss at least being there and enjoying the race vibe and outstanding catering by the locals.

It’s difficult to try explain to someone what they’re missing out on by not doing this event. It’s like finding the best sweet you’ve ever eaten and suggesting to your friend to take a bite but they don’t want to because they’re too full from having lunch but you know that if they do, they’ll be so blown away, they’ll eat that sweet rather than their lunch every day of their life  ;D Yes, it is that good !!! :drif:

Even while sweeping the course on Saturday I found myself smiling in my helmet constantly. The fast, sweeping terrain keeps you so engaged on the bike that you just can’t help yourself from acting like a hooligan. It’s offroad biking nirvana

But it’s not just the riding and the terrain that is so amazing, it’s the organisers and the locals and the effort they go to, to make this event so special that stands out. The catering alone is worth the drive out there. All I took with for 3 days away was my coffee pot , a box of rusks and R800 in my wallet and I ate and drank like a King.
The Kerrie Hoender Roosterbrood was particularly good this year  :drif:

Well done to Clive, the WCOC team and the farmers Connie & Braam and their families for another superb Tankwa 500X.

God willing I’ll be back on the start line in 2018, on a 450 big banger  >:D

Great to see so many familiar faces in the pics. Who is going to write about their experiences?

Hubby an JP Le Roux got it fixed 👍🏻Sat started great.. untill my engin decided to give in on a long straight , ending my race in a big cloud of dust... Although i could not finish, I loved this event and had a great week end. See you next year... Tankwa 😃  ... great effort . Thanx ”

Shane Nell
"Thanx  everyone involved this week end. Was a great race and great atmosphere as normal. Well done to all the winners and everyone else who completed."

Johan van Lill
"Clive en jou span baie dankie vir die amazing tankwa event dat was verseker die lekerste terein ooit die wat nie daar was nie het baie gemis sien jou verseker volgende haar weer"

From us at WCOC
This past weekend the WesternCape OffRoad Club hosted the 2nd Tankwa 500 X Country Event and from the positive feedback received it was again a HUGE success.

An event like this could not be possible without the local farmers who provide us with amazing vast lands to compete on. Cornie Taljaard and your fellow farmers - thank you - it certainly is a privilege to race in such a beautiful part of the country.

The catering and hospitality was exceptional, thank you to all the ladies who worked throughout the weekend providing great food.

To all the competitors who entered - well done. It was fantastic seeing the sportsmanship between you all and the club thanks you for supporting the event and the local community.

Then to everyone who has lent a hand over the year leading up to the event with building of facilities, logo design, filming, track setting, clean up etc - thank you. It certainly is great having extra hands helping out. (I am not tagging anyone as I would hate to forget someone - you all know who you are).

Till next year - 2018 Tankwa 500 X Country

This was my digs for the weekend. I basically parked my bakkie, took out my bike kit and threw a mattress and pillows in the back and I was sorted  :thumleft: Honestly, what more does a man need?  ;D

Martin Lourens flying on the last day. Despite losing a ton of time with a short on his bike blowing fuses, he still managed a win in the Rally Class on his Droomers Yamaha WR450F.

He owed Fuzzy Muzzy a few beers at prize giving because after trying his best to solve the fuse blowing issue and stripping off his entire rally tower and tank, Muzz pitched up while sweeping and asked "Is the rear flicker wire is supposed to be hanging loose like that?" Turns out it was shorting against the frame  :imaposer:
