Loose wheel nuts

Had the weirdest experience yesterday. Took my 1150 ADV for a spin. Bike felt fine and then all of a sudden it was snaking (fortunately still at low speed). Thought I had a flat. Stopped and checked, wheels fine. Rode again but same. Stopped again and found that my rear wheel nuts were all VERY loose!!!! Fastened with wheel spanner and had no further problem. My question is, how the hell do all the wheel nuts get so loose???
