gps mounting bar broken off
« on: August 01, 2017, 02:48:59 pm »
My AT has got 10k on the clock , about 2K of that dirt road around western cape. I had a Garmen Zumo mounted on the bar behind the screen , as I assume everybody sees it for that purpose. now the towerframe has cracked clean off at the join to the accessory bar..... under designed methinks. any advice welcome...

Its not designed for mounting a GPS

This is a known weak point on the AT. Lots on international rides about that broken cross beam due to GPS's being mounted on it. A GoPro Session is about all it will handle.

I saw pictures also think its under designed..... But put more weld runs through one side is welded other one not so you will see it crack on the run I also put a support.

Arrow,

"Gesien hier kom kak" when I had mine on there initially.

ordered RR's fitting & works like a charm.
ordered the mount and rear brake fluid reservoir and cost R1350, all in.
Touratech charge more for mount alone...

Has anybody fitted a Hero Session to the screen cross bar? I have a handle bar bag fitted so I don't have space there.

Yep, and that is all I will ever mount on that cross bar.

Aaaah ..... good question ..... I think it was an Amazon specific purchase for the Session. Not the correct diameter for the tube, I had to add some rubber to get it to hold sufficiently but it works well. I will in fact remove it as the field of view is very limited. I would rather mount it at a 45 degree angle on the RHS handle bar looking back to get some distance behind the left arm.

I have added 2x alu brackets, one on either side running from the crossbar to the plate behind the speedo.
Works perfectly and my gps is super stable.

I like Lospers fix, no doubt it will work well.

Last Nov I bought the Camel ADV brace that has been lying in my cupboard since then to be mounted in Aug.

I just do not trust the screen bracket after 25k mostly on gravel so far.
