Top Box
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:10:36 pm »
Hi Guys

Suggestions on Top Box for the AT?

The OEM is about R5300 with the cushion and the two dealers in the Western Cape I called don't keep stock.

The advantage with this one being it works with the ignition key

I use a 42 l Givvi topbox. Takes two helmets, or one helmet and jacket which works for me. Has a built in backrest for the wife.

I did a lot of research before fitting a top box an panniers.

I had a look at Givi, SW Motech, Motoradical, the OEM ones and Globescout

In the end I went Globescout. They are not cheap, but great quality, sturdy and have no plastic clips.

Very happy this far
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies

...we have not seen you in a while...  ;D  !

but obviously, we can assist, with Motorradical (always in stock) or else Globescout (we order in for the specific bike)

Motorradical under R5K, box AND adaptor plate (stainless steel= very strong), and you can choose natural alu finish or powder-coated alu (Black) or powder-coated alu (Silver-Grey).

You will not be able to use Honda key, BUT one key opens all 3 locks, the two lid locks and the locking 'claw'...

PS: we have developed a novel tool set - two levers that allow spoke tightening + front and rear wheel removal + front wheel pinch bolts, etc, just ask if you wish to see it...

Cheers!

Hi Chris

It has been a long time since I saw you there but last we were there, your wife helped and we bought Camo pants for the GF and a SW Motech Drybag

I have seen the OEM one and I am quite familiar with Motorradicals offering but when chating to other AT owners, one said he bought a box from you for around R1500.00

I have also never been a fan of the plastic rounded style top boxes with brake lights or reflectors built in.

I thought I would make a post to hear what the other owners say and what they have done

all good, my post was a little tongue-in-cheek (about not seeing you for a while) since I enjoy catching up with you / hearing news, what's new, etc!

Never heard of a R1500 top box, we sell M/R at R4200 (thereabouts), otherwise we do sell EMGO plastic top boxes, mostly (but not solely) for smaller bikes, and they are around R800 IIRC, but are very strong, I had one on my 1150 for a while!

Will watch the thread to see what other options are out there,

(....and we have three M/R boxes that were LIGHTLY scuffed by their foam padding on their way down from JHB to us, and have been reduced to R3995
two polished alu., one alu powder-coated silver-grey).

Cheers
Chris

I hate top boxes. They look kak.
BUT i have fitted the Trax from SW Motech to my AT, so I dont fly off the back when Pebbles opens up the throttle when I am asleep on the back.
You can carry beer in it. Bottles explode.
And the weight of the adaptor plate plus box is over 6.5Kg so you are left with 3.5Kg of usable carrying weight so as not to exceed the 10Kg maximum load as per sticker on the back of the bike.
So they are useful when I need to stop at the shop for toilet rolls. Thats all, or to take my pillow to a bash.
Where are my shorts??

Cheers, I also don't really want one.  I think panniers are more useful andkeep the weight lower.

It's a grudge purchase for me so the GF feels like she won't roll off the back when I pull away

Also learned that not all boxes work on every bike some names can work and other big names throw bike around. Trax is not bad also get yourself the inner bag if water comes through clothes doesnt get wet. For me Pannier bags soft luggage with two options on top box Motoradical with back rest or Duffel bag.
