After a lekker build up of bike banter and bike prep - the weekend was here.

The plan;

Leave early on Saturday and take as much gravel options as possible to get to Rooiberg Lodge outside Calitzdorp. And come back via the other side of the mountain.

Ktm was well represented , BMW had an HP2 and WPN, and a Dragonball Z Suzuki.

We also had my Dad along in a 4x4 with grandkids and trailer.

And so it started:

Early, Cold and Misty:

All tar to Worcester, some more tar and then some gravel to Robertson.

Stopped at a great place for coffee and breakfast:

Robertson to Montagu.

And off to the start of the off road expedition.

Joubertspoort Pass..

The GPS was pretty useful at this point.

Bit of low range for the 4x4

On to the Aynsberg Nature Reserve.

After setting off from this point it was about 10mins later that I discovered my GPS has fallen off :(:(:(:(

Turned around - searched and searched - to no avail.. I was upset. Then I reminded myself that the bike was giving NO hassles and I'm in the middle of nowhere with a great bunch of adventure riders. My dad, my kid - life is good :)

From there we headed on to Seweweekspoort pass.

Great gravel roads all the way there.

Thats when I discovered my GOPRO has broken off the mount. (Which i mounted to the crash bars)

So after losing the GPS and now the GoPro... i was actually relieved... somehow all the buttons and worries take away from the sights and sounds of adventure riding.

I also figured out why I also need to invest R5 in 2 pieces of string.
Only 2 of them would have saved me around R12k and lots of jokes later on that evening. Rookie mistakes...lessons learned..

Into Seweweekspoort Pass. The awesomeness of the pass soon takes over and the adventure continues.

Next stop is the station in Caliztdorp.

Almost as soon as we stopped we were reminded that Rooiberg Pass is lying ahead and the sun will be going down soon.

The next morning the route was decided and we were off.
