690 Enduro R Tyre Choice
« on: August 17, 2017, 06:09:02 pm »
Howzit guys,

Just bought a new 690 and I may have a choice of tyres from the dealer. What should I look at for 80% gravel/off road riding?

If you aren't paying Mitas E09
Something to think about...

Standard tyres are fine. Been trough Baviaans and all with mine.

Nothing beats the Pirelli MT21's on the 690, I'm going back to them a.s.a these Dunlop D908s are destroyed.
Present bikes: BETA 300RR, KTM 690, Yamaha WR250F

Read only good reviews on the MT21's on Advrider as well, seems like a great option. Are the ok on tar?

Yes, they grip very well but the tradeoff is low mileage on the rear, around 3500km before replacement. But if you're planning on doing 80% gravel then they're a great choice.
If you want distance on a rear then mate the MT21 front to a Dunlop D908 rear, it's cheap and hard wearing but sketchy on the wet on tar.

If you not worried about price. The Desert race front it pretty damn good and last a long while (two rears). For touring/off-road nothing quite measures up to the Mitas E09 Dakar.
I recently tried out the E12 which is meant to be a lighter version of the E09 which was good but I would probably go for the E09 in the future.

I can recommend Dunlop D606 for the rear
