For me it has become common practice to clean out the paper air filter on my F800GS after prolonged off road rides, especially after riding in dust of riders in front of you, or in groups. But is it the best thing to do?
I use pressured air to blow out the paper air filter element, but some say that the pores get damaged, getting bigger and letting through more particles. They say that a filter should not be cleaned, but rather replaced.
Some air filters (e.g. new Africa Twin) are so difficult to come by that owners just leave them till the next service. 15000km is a long way to drive on a dirty air filter.
What is best practice when it comes to filter cleaning?
