2002 Dakar problems starting - Sorted (I think)

When pressing the starter button, the engine swings over, but does not start.  On second attempt (pressing starter) it does start.  Seems that it is getting worse. Once the bike has started, no issues,  Can stop and start immediately, no problem. Problem only with 1st attempt (at the moment, maybe will get worse, maybe some problem developing)

It used to start first time when pressing the start button.  I do follow the correct start procedure (wait for temp light to go off).  Also fitted a new battery about 3 months ago, no issues then. 

Any help out there?
