The R56 between Mount Fletcher and Maclear has recently been upgraded and this lovely pass now sports some impressive road engineering and is apparently really enjoyable on a bike with perfectly banked corners and a nice smooth new surface. In the news recently is the design of two new massive bridges on the N2 in the same area, one of which will the highest bridge in SA, surpassing the Bloukrans bridge's deck height of 216m.
