APPROXIMATE VALUE
« on: October 05, 2017, 03:22:52 pm »
I inherited a fly fishing rod set from my grandfather , it appears to be made from cane and comes in a fancy balsa box with different length pieces to make the rod longer or shorter , and in the lid of the box are the original flies ? lures , this rod set has never been used and is in an as new condition . What can it be worth , sorry no pics as it is packed away at my lockup , I was just interested .

Thanx in advance.

In such original condition I'm sure it will be fairly valuable to a serious collector. However, the brand will be the biggest determinant price-wise, I think. Nonetheless, it would be great to have a few photos of what must be a relatively rare find.

Gonna have to post pics and give brand names.
If it is an antique hand made split cane rod its gonna be worth something. Especially on the UK market.

Waiting for pics etc/

I see them selling on eBay for around R1500 - R2500 depending on model and condition. If that helps any.

Harry Rinker says the following (but please note this is in 2013):

A NFT fishing combination set complete and in its period box is worth between $30.00 and $50.00, suggesting that it has more conversation and reuse than collector value.

Here is a bit of research

www.rodbuilding.org/read.php?2,81895

www.harryrinker.com.

rod was made in the 50s by the japs and mass flooded the market after the WW2.

Ebay lists some at around 100 to150 USD. that's what they asking for them... Dont know what they selling for though
