Canon G5X
« on: October 17, 2017, 01:00:17 pm »
I can lay my hands on a second hand G5X but have read that the battery life is really dismal. The picture quality seems to be good (only played around the garden). Anytime as good as a normal new cell phone but more can be done with a camera like this than with a cell. A second battery will probably sort the battery life problem but before I spend money, I have two questions:
i) What are the other W/dogs experience with your G5X? Worth while or not?
ii) What would a good price price be to pay or a camera like this. I see they sell new for something close to 10k.

I have other cameras and several lenses( 20d, 70D and a old 1D ) but looking for a camera (read mik en druk) to take quick pics while on a bike trip. You all know the ritual of gloves off, helmet off, bag open etc etc. Secondly I often see interesting things/scenery/people/landscapes along the road and do not always have the bigger cameras with me. Quick stop, take my pic(s) and off again.

Your input appreciated.

What is a good offer- no idea how old it is but seems fairly new - out of a deceased collection....

You mean to say R 11000 ?! Ye gods! has a few bad scratch mark on the barrel but otherwise the rest worls very well except the batter as I said.

This then seems to be the bargain of the year if that is 11 grand!

Just been to the Orms website and the G5 X is selling new for just under R 10 000. I think Takelot is even less.

No expert on prices, but this is what I'll pay:

if "as new" (less than 1 year old, no scratches, appears unused): 65-70% of price when new (not current new price)

if slightly used, minor scratches, well looked after, less than 3 years old: 40-50% of price when new (not current new price)

if older, more used: hmmm... I'll pass.
