BMC filter from bad to good.
« on: October 19, 2017, 12:06:26 pm »
Ok so my filter on my 690 broke. Yes broke.

I took pictures and send it to BMC on Facebook and the reply I got started with "you have no warranty". At this point I made peace as I have already ordered a filter from KTM.
They continued with " the batch was defected and we will supply you with a replacement filter".

So I ordered my new filter from KTM on 12.10.2017 and supplied BMC with my address on the 16.10.2017.
Today 19.10.2017 I got the replacement filter from BMC, shipped out of Italy. KTM filter might be here on 25.10.2017.

Good job BMC.
When in doubt, flat out!!!

I bought my bike with BMC filter in. Broke too and I did not like the fine layer of dust in my airbox.
It went dirty very quickly too. If it gave any exstra performance I certainly did not notice it.
Went back to OEM and prefilter. No dust in airbox. Just clean prefilter every 3000 kms.

Mine also started to tore. My Luckily my mechanic notice the tear and he said that he also prefer the OEM paper filters

I bought the bike with the filter and have not touched the filter once.

I checked it about 3 weeks ago just to see what filter it has in and then checked after n nice dusty ride and was shocked.

I will now have to clean out my airbox and keep the BMC filter as a spare.
When in doubt, flat out!!!

If you found any dust in the air box I would definitely have the valve clearances checked when you next service the bike particularly the intake side. Its easy enough to do yourself with a feeler gauge from Midas, the specs are in the manual. And while you have the valve cover off better check the rocker arms for play, but that's for another thread  :peepwall:

Will do, not sure when the bike went for it's last service but think its almost time.
Bike is 2008 model with 11000 km on the clock and have already had 3 or 4 services.
Previous owner stays in Isle of Man and bike was only used in December holidays.
When in doubt, flat out!!!
