Renrew, has your experience with the 2017 jetting been bad? A couple of my mates (experienced "Roof Level" riders) have them, and they are happy, subsequent to re-jetting.

For the record, I have a 2016, so my question is just out of curiosity.

Good luck to all this year's participants. 2017 was supposed to be my year for a Silver attempt, but my relocation to the WC, and the lack of riding opportunities (read - lack of training) has tossed that notion out the window. Next year I'll be 49, so my window is closing...

The standard 2017 jetting with the Mikuni carb was terrible - both poor running and fuel economy. KTM brought out a 'fix kit' with new needle jet, needle etc. Then local dealers could not get stock of it and ended up trying to order the kit parts separately etc. We could not wait for KTM to get their shyte together (the bike was not Ready to Race!)  and got a JD Jetting kit and the replacement needle jet and got it probably 90% fixed, but still guzzled juice. I then was lucky to source an as new Lectron from Oz and the rest is history. These smart carbs are amazing - no fooking around with jetting at altitude and bike is crisp all over. We have 3 friends with the 2017 Mikunis who experienced similar problems on a 125, 150 and 300 and the dealer could not get it right. All three are now also running Lectrons. Many of the international riders also ended up using smart carbs or retro fitting Keihin carbs off the older models. With lots of patience and time and energy one can get the Mikuni's right but are very finicky with the 2017 models for some reason. KTM got into bed too quickly with Mikuni due to using their FI as I understand.

We are hoping to  cross at Monantsa, then a lekker scenic rout to the lodge. I’ll be having a whisky and stogie before sunset.
