I really battled with a G/S petcock today...! :
It is an odd setup.
The nut is dual threaded.
The thread on the petcock side is LH thread and on the fuel tank side is RH thread.
I struggled until I realised this duality.
I had thought it was LH right through.
Eventually I worked out how to get it to attach...
Turn the nut until it just threads onto the petcock.
Be sure to have the strainer in place as the base is a sealing washer.
Then press the nut and petcock into position on the tank and turn the nut only while you hold the petcock still.
The RH thread tightens the top and the LH thread tightens the bottom.
