I have received numerous enquiries wrt to Ballistic Protection:
Herewith a synopsis of what I advise:
If you want a vest it will come down to a few things:
Budget: Between R3500-R10000 depending on vest and protection level: Pistol or rifle. It will always be cheaper than a stay in ICU or a Funeral.
Threat Level: Do you want to protect yourself against common handgun calibre threats and or rifle threats?
Situation/Mission: What specific situations do you want to wear the Bullet Proof Vest? CP Patrol, CIT Guard, Homeowner or Farmer responding to an incident on their property or shop owner whilst working?
Your Physical condition: The fitter you are the better you will perform wearing a BPV during a shifts.
Do you want to have the vest plain and put a separate tactical vest over to carry some gear, OR, do you want to MOLLE attach pouches, holsters and radios?
Finally: If you are going to protect your body what about your head?
Once you have determined your answers it is easier to make a decision.
Rule of thumb:
The lighter and the higher protection of the vest, the more it costs, the longer you can wear, it the less time you spend in ICU or avoid the cemetery.
