Namibian Wilddog Conservation Project
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:57:56 pm »
A few of us on the forum wanted to do something constructive regarding the conservation of wilddogs.  What we wanted to do was to support initiatives that will ensure the survival of the species and not do just look after wilddogs kept in captivity.  Davy and I did some research on this, and thanks to his connections in Namibia we got hold of Robin Lines, a guy who spend months at a time tracking and studying the dogs.

We will be hosting a get together for Robin Lines of the Namibian Wild dog project in Centurion next week Thursday 4th of September at around 18:30-19:00.

Robin will entertain us at the Golden Pipit with a presentation on the dog project in Namibia and tell us more about his studies during the past 6 years on these remarkable animals. Davy have met with him on occassion and was inspired by his deep routed knowledge and passion for these animals. I am sure it will be interesting to spend an evening in his company and talk about this experiences in the Namibian bush.

We have taken the liberty to arrange a braaivleis with the host at the Golden Pipit for the evening. We have tentatively reserved for 20 people but sincerely hope we can increase that figure!

A full meal braaivleis with starters and dessert will cost R150-00 per person. There is also a cash bar for the thirsty ones.

This is where they should be.  Running free.

After chatting to Davy and to add to Red's great initiative, 2 more suggestions:

1. Maybe make it R200 for the evening - R50 can go towards Robin's flight cost which Davy is currently paying for - thanx Davy!!!!
2. We would also want some form of facilitated chat after the presentation in order to potentially move from listening to some form of action plan or intend of involvement.  We would like to tap Robin's mind on how we can make a difference on a practical level. (rumour has it he's a KTM man... so maybe rides to that area is in our future)

Thanx for this initiative Red and Davy - may this be the first step towards making a real difference in the lives of Wild Dogs in the wild!!!

Cheers
Hein

Wow.

This is very cool!

I will feel very comfortable putting the money I can give towards this to someone who is there with the Wild dogs.

Someone with dirt under his fingernails actually living and learning from the dogs rather than trying to put them in an old age home.

Well done for organizing this.

Davy or Red - if you want to you can PM me some banking details - I'll pay the ammount for the evening in and you can use it towards flight ticket. I won't be there, but I would want to parttake in some form or another.

02/02/12 - RIP Glen - the Arrow of Elliot and the little man with the big heart that truly was larger than life.

You have touched us and left us better for having known you - even if it was only briefly.

For grabbing the moment and living the day It's been way too early that you were taken away

Here is the poster that Robing is using for educational purposes.  I have deleted the nice wilddog background and sponsors to make the file small enough to attach.  I will apologise next week.  It gave me an idea what the problem areas are and what a mammoth task Robin is facing.

Eisbein.  From what I understand "dirt under the fingernails" is the way he is doing it.  Hands on.  For weeks at a time.

We're trying to get at least 40 WD members there - R200 a head.  Davy booked the place and paid for some people already.  Lets try and pay for our own ticket/food (R150) and add something (R50) towards the flight cost.

Will be a super evening....

Sorry, the two men must give us some guidance here.  Kilroy?  Davy?
