Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V

Now here is, imho, perhaps a real serious challenger to the BMW GS1200ADV.

Moto Guzzi has released details on its giant trailie, the Stelvio 1200 4V.  Ok, Ok, even if this news was released in March 2008, I still think it is one serious nice scooter. 

Wonder if we will ever see them in South Africa?  And if so, must I start buying extra lotto tickets.

Extremely pretty bike!!

Reviews  suggested that it would probably only be available in SA with special import. Most reviews also rekon that it is a serious contender for the GS as long as you plan on staying on the tarmac
Unfortunately for Guzzi the competition in that category is a lot more fierce with the Varadero, Caponord, Vstrom, Moto Morini Granpasso (now that is a sexy bike!!) all being capable adventure bikes but aimed more towards tarmac than the GS.

Saw this bike in the flesh earlier this year. Stunning from almost any angle which makes the fact that it's got such a hideously ugly front end so much sadder. According to the ride reports I've read it lacks a bit of torque compared to the GS. Would still like to own a Guzzin some day though as in my opinion they really have character. Just waiting to see if they've sorted the reliability issues as I've had my share of exotic but unreliable bikes.

I saw the first mock up in the Bike SA, and this is not nearly as good looking as the first "idea".
