Starter motor repair / brush replacement
« on: December 01, 2017, 07:26:22 am »
Hi all

I need some help with repairing my Starter motor on my 2003 640 Adventure. It struggles to start from time to time, so it's either the starter motor or starter clutch. The motor is much easier to take out and strip, so I'm starting there

I took it all apart and cleaned it. From the looks of it the one brush is a bit worn:

Anyone familiar with starters that can comment? Should I replace the brushes and if so where do I find replacement parts? KTM only sells the whole kit and after Googling and phoning around for a whole day I still can't find anything.

Thanks in advance!

brushes look ok but you can go to a power tool shop and try and match them up.
you can file them so if you find ones slightly bigger they will work
