Had a crash

Did the Wuppertal loop this Saturday and had a rather big crash and am pleasantly surprised as to how well the 990 crashes, I do however have sw motech crash bars, one of which is now bent. My question to those of greater experience than I is as follows... The sw motech crash bar has a relatively loose fastening point on the frame which didn't hold up in the crash, now is that a positive aspect in that the give in the crash bar prevented the frame from being bent by giving way or is it shit because it collapsed?
