Being chased around Kyalami by AJ Venter and Rick Morias.

They should put up stone walls at the corners so AJ can go faster. :ricky:

What does he mean by "old school track"? What are different with the newer track designs?

Anybody know?

Thanks.

Perhaps that "old school tracks" had none of todays huge run-off areas, and spectators could sit/stand almost on the track, and pit-lanes used to be accessible.

Indeed 2SD.  He later did talk about the lack of proper run off areas.

Wasnt Collin Edwards the first MotoGP rider to ride Kayalami (The old track)? He also came out and did a Yamaha PR i think it may have been for the big bang R1? This was when he raced for Tech3

I may be wrong

Apologies.  I did mean the NEW Kyalami.  Heading edited accordingly.

Remember a few 500cc MotoGP races were ran on the old (first) Kyalami in the 80's.

- 1983 won by Freddie Spencer
- 1984 won by Eddie Lawson
- 1985 won by Eddie Lawson

I was reminded of the wet weather maestro Boet van Doelman a while ago and got me thinking of the days when my uncle had a stake in 500cc and 250cc teams. He would employ me as general dogs body whenever he could and i met a number of great racers.

This is a test in 1983... of course was not motogp in those days

Suzuki SA were also testing that day, Neville hiscock was testing and he unfortunately died a couple of weeks later down in the cape.
