You can learn to ride a taller bike. I've never had a bike where I can put both feet flat on the ground.

The deal is done, will take delivery once its registered. They pushed the front forks upwards by about 10 - 12 mm. The profile of the top end of the forks seems to allow for this adjustment as there is a smoothed surface at the top of the forks. It didn't make much of a difference for me though, so will see how it works. Hope that as the seat softens and possibly the rear suspension beds down a little, it might be more comfortable.

What a CRF Rally ? Will be lots, 80000km plus easily I reckon. It's not a high strung motor. Even my DRZ did 50 000km before it started using some oil.

Very few DRZ's see 50k km's without blowing up.

I have much higher hopes for the Honda 250.

Pros:
- dropped the Rally in some fairly thick sand (I stood in the wrong queue - I thought it said "riding god" only when I got to the front did I see it was "dog") - what a pleasure to pick up

Cons:
- whoops, suspension and higher speeds do not mix, by the 3rd or 4th bump the suspension is confused - maybe the 95kg rider does not help matters.

Last time I saw my old bike it was on 86000km original bottom end. I replaced the barrel and piston at 50000km with an Athena kit. The stock barrel was still 100% I could have just added a new Suzuki piston and it would have also worked. The DRZ puts out around 45HP with the kit (Hotcam stage 2 and Athena big bore with FCR and 3 x 3 mod) and weighed 135kg

If you google Rhonda the Honda you'll see that a 250L was used on a round the world trip (she was also featured on Carte Blanche) and this bike did over 100 000 km without problems.

I do not dispute your bike's history, but as far as DRZ's go I think that is quite rare. They were not known for lasting top ends.

Added photos to my earlier input. First ride was 154 km last Sunday morning, west of Bloem. Nice and cool and damp after a light shower on Saturday night. Very happy with the bike so far. Glad I didn't decide on the Africa Twin to start with as I need to "re-connect" with biking and see if this adventure riding will "grab" me. So far, so good !

You can probably set/reduce the preload on the rear shock, which will drop the rear a bit.

Thanks LoopSoosStroop, the dealership told me its already on its softest setting. Once sitting on the bike my toes (not just tips) make good contact with mother earth. Because the bike is a lot lighter than the Africa Twin I test rode, I can let it lean a bit further to get one foot flat on the ground. With the AT, it was a bit more risky, especially on a slope !. I'm okay with the Rally on a slope, as long as its not 30 degrees !!

Nice! and Congrats. I think your choice of bike is excellent.
I like power and speed as much as the next guy but I think will become more skilled and a better rider with this bike, and embarrass a lot of bigger bikes offroad than you would have if you got an AT out the gate.

Looks like a nice area to ride, nice and green
