Some feedback below from a Thinkbike member who emailed a councillor who contacted the traffic guys. Things are starting to move

Quote
Good day Sir

I have arranged for a pedestrian operation for tomorrow the 26th February 2009 on the N1 between Sable Road and the N7. This operation will take place for the entire day and includes both peaks. The objective will be to prevent pedestrians from crossing the N1 as well as to educate them in the dangers of crossing the Freeways and the laws regarding pedestrians on the Freeway. I have also scheduled two speed checks to be done on Centuary BLVD, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Furthermore I have contacted Provincial Traffic who have informed me that Rainbow contractors are responsible for the maintaining and repairing of the fences along the N1. I have also inspected the fencing on the N1 opposite Centuary City on the 24th February 2009 and have found it to be in a poor condition with holes in it.

As for the engineering aspect, it is an issue that will have to be dealt with by the Province and other responsible role players such as Metro Rail and Centuary City.

Province is aware of these problems that have been raised but from a Traffic perspective we must bear in mind that a large number of their staff have now resigned and joined the City.

We will endeavour to have regular operations on the National Road and to maintain high visibility patrols to discourage the pedestrians from crossing the National Roads.

Kind Regards
Adrian Long

I saw a traffic patrol vehicle there this morning.

And no villains trying to cross the freeway...

Nice one!!!  :thumleft:

I was impressed to see service teams repairing / strengthening / erecting fencing next to the N1 by Century City and the adjacent railway lines - it looks like we may have made a difference :)

 :hello2:

Obviously they still have to do the big hole where the majority come across the railway, as it was still there this afternoon, let's hold thumbs.

BTW, where did you see them fixing the fence?

Thanks to the regulars, and also to Bus who stopped. There should be an article in Table/Tyger Talk soon about the situation.

And I don't know if I should believe the lack of resources story, we had 4 patrol vehicles there at one stage  ::)

Who would've expected a Bus-stop on the N1...  ::)

When I left I wanted to pull-off wiff a wheelie, but I guess it wouldnt have helped our cause much with the cops, LOL!!!

Nice one Buzz & co

I still say a fence on the highway middelmannetjie is the only solution, preferably electrified...  >:D

Just read on the thinkbike site that a pedestrian was knocked on Friday. http://www.tbforum.co.za/forum/showpost.php?p=363667&postcount=64  :(

Now if the authorities was interested in prevention...  :bueller:

Apparently the article is in yesterday's Table Talk. A lady from an engineering firm phoned me last night. They hope that the article will jump start the project again, it has been going for 3 years trying to jump through all the hoops.
