Yep, the time has come and the job has begun .....

following on from my 'minor' oil leak I have entered a huge world of hurt. Being the clever clogs I am I decided to go on 1 last jaunt before the minor engine removal that was needed. A 2000km little trip through Lesotho, down to the coast, a FAT party on new years and then a couple days to get home ...... LEKKER!!!!!!

The bike was great besides the start of a clutch slip and a bit of oil seeping out the side of the motor. Got all packed with camping stuff, got through Xmas to boxing day and off I went. An epic journey it was and for those that wanna ask - no, there will not be a RR. Maybe some referrals here but it's for you 9X0 boys only, yous know what these bikes can do but also how bastard they can be.

Entering Lesotho at Monantsa broke my sub-frame to start with. Great! now my shit is lumped on the seat with me, luckily not a lot but still .... I was restricted. Oh well! carry on .....

That 'little' pass on the road from Taung to Setha-something that LOSPER didn't really mention cooked my clutch and I saw all bars lit on the heat gauge as well as a brand new warning light, never seen before. I was also in so much shit from my fellow riders for taking them there, I spent half a day up and down the mountain, helping those old fuckers lift their bikes .... useless cnts!

Anyways, days later I arrived in Umkomaas and needed to fix my clutch. Being a KLR fundi, I immediately went for plan B and made up some wire washers to 'help' the springs. 3mm fence wire did the trick. 1hour ..... all done and ready for a beer or two. NEW YEARS EVE!!!!!!!!

2 days later it's time for the home journey and my riding 'buddies'opt for tar back the GP ....... 600 odd kms. Fuck that, I'm doing dirt. So of I went, spent an overnight at the Green Light Fitting and straight back onto dirt for the final stretch.

And then it happenned .....my clutch exploded!!!! No, no, no ...... on my ace in the arse end of the Free State ..... boiling hot, no shade. Nothing to do but make a plan, which I did. Cleaned out the clutch as best I could and re-assembled without the fence wire. Bits of clutch basket and spring were missing but I couldn't find them, so closed it up and tested. Purred better than any pussy I've known before and we were off again .....well, sort of ...... not much clutch but enough to keep moving.

Not 3 minutes later, I look down and see the oil light on .... and just know in my heart  ...... here's kak. Pulled the clutch and heard some terrible chain/rattle sounds from the engine and switched it off. That was it ............ trip over .................... spent the next 4 hours hiding under the bike waiting for a trailer.

And while there, with absolutely nothing to do, I decided this will be my next project. I was gonna rebuild a little 200 to do some enduros on but now I've got something really meaty to sink my teeth in.

So let's get started ................ this is gonna take time and a shitload of dosh!

First it's off with the sub-frame and get that sent if for specialist welding and re-inforcing. I gotta guy who's got a shake, like an alky, and is a natural-born welder...

Quite easy so far, hope it stays this way .....  :thumleft:

These seem to come as 1 part, coz I wiggled and wiggled but they wouldn't part company - tomorrow I'll show them the cutting torch ......

And then you get to this, A view you'll all recognise from when you've had to do an oil change. I hope you're taking note, Mitch, this is not a joke ......  :imaposer:
