Thanks Lorenzo. I am so looking forward to riding with you chaps. The Tankwa has been on my bucket list.  I am told it is puncture country .

Just run good pressure. softer will result in pinching and sidewall damage

I take it everybody is getting their Airheads ready for the Great Gathering...?
New E-07 TL front tyre...Check.

I put my new white painted GS tank on today.
I was also servicing the front brake and discovered I have a seized slave piston - so it was off to leave ti with Bavarian to solve it.
I'll have the bash plate back on tomorrow after I re-torque the sump bolts.

I took my bike for a shake down (litterly) on the Haasdal road between Wellington and Hermon.
While riding there it made me think of the last time I rode with Kevin (KTMKev). Man, that guy could ride a bike. That day his little boy was with. All smiles and hanging on for dear life on the back of the G/S. Enjoying life with his dad.

I have had a Michelin Desert Race in the garage for a while and fitted it. Front wheel. Nearly crashed twice in the first 5 km. So now I am slightly nearvous about the tire. Any similar alternatives that will work well on my G/S?

Also took "Rommel" for a shakedown ride yesterday as I'm working this coming weekend.

Pietas, I believe in TKC up front. Running it on all my bikes.

I have no experience with the Desert Race. I once tried the Karoo 3 on my HP, kakkest tyre ever, so took it off after 300 km.

I guess you can say I'm not a Michelin man.  8)

Pietas, new tires are waxy, 5 km would not have gotten rid of that. Give it another 20km or so

Oh and I am using T63, which seem to handle fine. No wobbles what so ever.

(Who on earth puts a 22mm head on a 6mm bolt...?)

crikey, which one is that?

The 4 bolts holding the sump guard onto the paralever bikes.
The purpose made bolt thread is 6mm with a 10mm straight shoulder where it goes through a rubber grommet in the plate, then the head is 22mm flat.
Alternative would be a 6mm Allen key bolt, 25mm body washer and a 10mm spacer bush.
That way you don't need a 22mm spanner to tighten it in the field...!

Dunlop Geomax AT81F (front) if you want to carve serious dirt on your G/S special. More of a competition tyre for enduros but it has been amazing on my XR650L.If you have a light weight G/S this would be a great tyre for mostly off-road.
Small hard knobbies punch through onto the surface for grip. In my experience the T63 front has been pretty sketchy on a 150kg XRL in the dirt. Knobs too big in surface area for the dirt but does well on tarmac. Guess I have been answering my own question here - TKC80 and T63 will do well on the Beemers since they are heavier bikes and load the front tyre contact patch more. So who's gonna try a D AT81F on a G/S and give some feedback. Cool on tarmac too even at proper lean angles.

I'm on a tight schedule to get ready for this.
subframe is at the powder coaters
forks are in pieces
saddle bags are being altered at centurion canvas

Sounds like a shoulder screw
http://www.boltfast.co.za/hexagon-socket-head-shoulder-screw/

This is it - no 23:

I mounted my bashplate on these, slight loss in clearance, but I don't use my G/S for enduro trails, so its fine.

The TKC80 front tyre I had on my R80 for last year is shot (less than 3000kms?)
The center line knobblies are shaved down at an angle from the tar...
New E-07 fitted for the Gathering.  ;)
