690R on a MX stand?
« on: February 04, 2018, 03:57:12 pm »
Howzit guys,

I need to find a way to get my 690R upright with the rear wheel off the ground.

With the OEM skid/bash plate fitted, can the bike stand on an MX stand? The full weight of the bike will be on the bash plate mounts
It was also suggested to get swingarm bobbins so that it can stand on a paddock stand.

Suggestions?

I have supported the bike on the side stand with a car axle stand under the plastic bash plate without an issue for wheel changes.  Now I mostly screw a longish bolt in the the thread at the end of the swingers and place the axle stand under there.  Works extremely well for tire changes, chain lubes etc.

When removing the front wheel I use the axle stand under the baseplate but just find a spot where it is all stable and balanced.  Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hey Miks.

I use a paddock stand for chain care as well, as any work on the back wheel with axle bobbins. I got a cheap mx stand as well, however hardly use it, as the bike is very unstable. Got the paddock stand from Bikers Warehouse at a good price.

Thanks! Did you also get the bobbins from Bikers warehouse? Best to leave them in permanently or only when needed?

The 690's plastic bashplate would be quite capable of supporting the bike's weight on a MX-stand, were it not for the bash-plate's round shape. Very unstable, and pegs has to be fastened to stand.

Apologies, I left out important information: with the OEM Aluminium bash plate fitted can it go onto a MX stand?

Hi Miks
If you asking if the bash plate can support the weight then yes. I often use a stand I made for my XT 500 when working on the bike.
I also have a MX stand, the type that lifts the bike by pushing down on the foot pedel but its to high to fit under the bike.
Cheers

I would not fit bobbins due to where guys ride 690's (ctach and break off) but rather find a height adjustable swing arm lift

we now stock and sell a workable solution, called SNAP-JACK....

the idea being that with a group of friends riding together, on bikes WITHOUT center-stands, only say ONE of the group would need to carry a Snap Jack V2, etc.

Check out the video, we have stock, in Orange, funny enough! and they cost R1095 incl.
