Asking for advice ...again
« on: February 12, 2018, 06:24:00 pm »
Fellow riders,

What would you think is the cause of this crack?

Where can I have it properly fixed or replace?

Would this cause failure if left as is?

Thank you in advance

Over loaded top box on dirt roads.
If you carry on using the top box ...it will break off.  :-[
You can have it magnesium welded ...don't know how successful this is.

Kry versterkers by Flying Brick in CPT, hy sal dit pos. Vorige 1100 wat ek gehad het het di eienaar flatbar aan di binnekant vas gepoprivet om.di gewig te help dra en di raam te versterk.

Jy terug in di land?

Am I correct in saying that this does not happen if you use the original alu panniers and bmw frame ? from the Adventure.

THE CHALLENGE MAY NOT BE EASY , BUT IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

The GS has the same rack as the 1100, the GSA is different, Flying Brick sells a brace to stop this happening. I would weld and get the braces.  8)

Empty Topbox mainly.  8),

Fixed!  Yes, it may sound strange but an empty topbox does more damage to the rear frame that a loaded topbox!

Now to find the posts what bolts ect to use...

The two bolts are the two just in front of the indicators, the angles face outwards if that makes sense, then it bolts up into the aluminium.

Fit it all loosely, tighten the two bolts finger tight only, nip up the rear bolts into the aluminium section, then bolt up the two forward bolts per side.

Thank you Welsh and Louis...

I found and read the thread on the brackets for the 1150 GS and GSA's.

Will give feedback as soon as I have tried / succeeded.

I am sad to say that I have tried to fit the brackets to fit properly... changed them around... called a friend to get a different view and opinion... started to alter the holes that fix to the bolts at the flickers... just to find out it does not leave enough space for the mudguard when one tightens it... started to grind away "excess" steel... just to find out that very little remains... just to come to the conclusion that most of the day was wasted... I am sad to say...

Not sure I understand? They are a straight bolt on?
