Oh man, I'm so regretting not having my 450 ready yet. After assisting you that weekend the bug has bitten me hard again, I can't wait to get back out there and twist some throttle  :thumleft:

So great to see some big names coming, I'm looking forward to seeing Ross Branch tear up the Tankwa, that oke is seriously fast... and let's not forget our own David Ellis that's going to be chasing him all the way.

Wow you guys have really outdone yourselves. This looks to be an absolutely bloody brilliant. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

How is the entry list looking? I hope you have enough riders to make it worthwhile.

I'm so excited for everyone going, and am quite jealous I won't be. Hopefully next year if there is another event.

Rally nut. What could possibly go wrong?

BB entries are disappointingly slow as we have gone to extraordinary efforts - so many said they coming but so many excuses.
On the plus side some big names coming Donny, Kenny Gilbert, Ross Branch, David Ellis, Devan Marais  and watch out for this young Lady Taye Perry who can give many of the guys a proper run for their money. Taye is tiny and petite but throws that 450 around big time.

I was a bit too slow on this one.
But next year I am definitely there.

I bought a 500, and getting it on the weekend if all goes to plan. But one week prep is sadly not enough. I need to get in some saddle time before I can realistically enter a race of this magnitude.

For the silver class - Can you rock up on your 701 with a wired in Montana and ride or do you first need to buy an Etrex and wire that to the bike?

You can indeed @Amsterdam and the 701 is the perfect weapon for the Tankwa Rally. I confirmed with Clive, it's eTrex or equivalent so as long as your GPS can read GPX files it will be fine  :thumleft:

Its a tough thing starting a rally in South Africa, with the economy down there is an additional factor. Also don't forget that Namaqua disaster that happened a couple of years back that did nothing good for rally in the country.

Staying power will make this rally a success and I think perhaps a lot of people will be looking to see how it goes and how it is run as the first year. With one successful rally under the belt, next year you will be able to attract more locals riders and international riders as well - I am sure.

Alexander built a great brand that grew quite nicely and now that there is a hole, you have the potential to fill it. All the best guys, and let us know who we can help. :thumleft:

A final suggestion from my side would be to allow some real time tracking for the followers and armchair racers. Not sure if its economically feasible and its obviously too late for thus year but something to consider perhaps going forward. These type of things generate big followings and great a lot of noise in social media.

Tankwa is going into its 3rd year now @BlueBull2007 and run by the WCOC who has presented numerous successful National Offroad events. It's not like the entrants are dealing with George Booker, this club knows how to organise a brilliant race and has spent countless hours building up great relationships with the local farmers. Even the food and lodging is taken care of by the local farmers.
Granted, 2016 wasn't a full blown Rally but 2017 was run with road books. it's disappointing to see the low entries in the rally class especially after we've laid these tracks and know just how awesome this terrain is for an event like this. It's a case of "you can take a horse to water..." and it's frustrating because it's not like there's a huge amount of rally events to chose from. Where else in the world can you race a 3 day event for R4000?

Really guys, you've got absolutely no idea what you're missing out on.

I spent a lot of money doing the 2014 Amageza but it was worth it. But I, like a lot of others, can't afford it anymore.

If I had the money, for the whole spend, I'd be doing the Tankwa. Looks the perfect fast off-road riding terrain to me, I know what I'm missing out on. ....

But I don't have the money anymore ..................... and I reckon this depressed economy is taking a lot of players out the game.

Maybe coz I'm poor but I reckon promoting the off-road with a GPS is the way to go here in SA.

But, next year ........ I have to do it. I just have to plan it now whereas in years gone by I would just sommer go, no problem.
Don't let fear hold you back ..... take it with you!
