Hi

I noticed after a trip the other day that my F650 may need some top up oil. After visiting the dealership in Bellville that sells german motorcycles, the parts salesman gave me a 500ml kannetjie Valvoline oil for diesel engines (SJ specification), assuring me it's the right stuff. The genuine BMW service schedule that I downloaded from www.f650.com states (in capitals) that you may not use synthetic oil OR oils with an SJ specification. After going back an querying the parts salesman, he said that it's all they sell and they put it in all the bikes. The workshop manager confirmed this and assured me it's safe to use.

The questions are:
- Is SJ spec oil in RSA different to the rest of the world?
- Is it really safe to use? This oil has obviously been put in my bike at the last service.
- Should I have my bike serviced at a workshop that disregards advice from the mother land?
