We have been absent for two weeks on a filming trip, hence our lack of posts. We thought you might enjoy this pic of Model T Ford we took on the Swartberg Pass.

In our Latest News this week we take a look at the 200 year old history of the Huisrivier Pass on the R62 - a road most of us have driven or ridden at least once in our lives, but have you ever wondered about it's origins? Take the link below as we take you back to an older, treacherous route through a steep sided gorge called Verkeerdekloof at one stage and later Caledonkloof. Regardless of the name used, nature took a side swipe at the kloof in 1885 when it sent a deluge of floodwater down the poort, completely destroying the route. This was the same flood that devastated Meiringspoort.

The result was that a new road had to be built avoiding the old kloof and so the Huisrivier Pass came to pass (pun intended). The reconstruction of the pass in the 1960's led to several new engineering techniques being developed - most of which are clearly visible when one rides this winding road on the R62. The nicely banked corners come up thick and fast on this pass, making it popular with the biking set.

The link will take you to our News Page and from there to the Huisrivier Pass. The page will remain open to all Wild Dogs members until Sunday. There are 2 brand new HD videos on offer.
