A South African fella has broken the motorcycle record for Cairo to Cape on his KTM 1190 Adventure R, completing the journey in a little more than 7 days. Not bad, I'd say.

Hey 2-S, does your pappie still hold the Durban-Joburg record on that BMW back in the '90s or was it the '80s? The time was just under three hours I think.

Yes makes sense, I remembered it being a big UJM not a BMW.

Yes makes sense, I remembered it being a big UJM not a BMW.

Indeed is was a Gixxer. It was his third attempt – the bike blew up the first two times.

2 hours 59 minutes and 10 seconds. This was while running out of fuel just before Jo'burg and getting a hand from a passerby with a fuel can.

Vaguely recall this Gixxer story - apparently he was carrying a LARGE pile of cash for posting bail if he got nailed?

Also seem to remember that metzeler wouldn't vouch for their tyres being able to stay in one piece for such a sustained high speed run.

Your Dad managed to blow up a Gixxer, twice?? Thousands of Cape Coloureds have not been able to do that since....
