Electronic wheel balancing?
« on: March 02, 2018, 04:14:32 am »
Could anyone please tell me where in the west rand can I get my front balanced.
I changed my front a week ago and now have a bar shake between 50kmh-80kmh.
Had the wheel replaced at Linex but the use the stand thingy.
Thanks in advance.

Also interested in this. I had the Tiger Wheel and Tyre in Auckland Park fit tyre for me but they could not balance them as the techies didn't know how to balance bike wheels on their machines, apparently their machines are capable though. The owner apparently also is into bikes so maybe an option if you give them a call.

It could be that the tyre is 'out of round'.  As far as I know no balancing will pick that up as it is not a 'weight' thing but a 'radius' thing.

Ok so today I investigated a few things.
Fit and balancing was good no problems with beads etc.
I even ran a clock on the tyre and rim no problems there although not super accurate.
The tyre pressure seems to be the biggest problem. Started 2.2 as per manual no good shake from 55-85  and too soft.
Then 2.7 big difference the shake was only there from about 65-75.
Talked to a frend who is a mechanic at "Triumph" he say go 2.9. Also when fitting the wheel on the bike all the screws must be nipped including the calipers. The bounce the bike in the suspension while pulling the brake. Then go around and tighen all the bolts. Unfortunately I do not have a hex for the front wheel shaft to do all this so I will try do it tomorrow.

I know the shake appeared after the tyre replacement but have you checked steering head bearings. Slowish speed shakes are usually loose steering head bearings.

Just an update on the tyre issue. It appears that the tyre is defective. They removed it rebalanced it... Same problem. After it was removed yesterday we checked the inside and there was about 5/6 bumps on the inside of the wheel. They supplied me with a good second hand tyre for time being until they could get another. A thumbs-up to Linex. Right off the bat Wayne suggested a new tyre, I did not even have to ask or suggest.
