Pre-Namib 'Getting to know you' trip around the Cape
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:56:59 am »
Butch, Kaboef and I met just before 8 at Krige's pub.
It was a cold and misty morning

We then shot over Helshoogte to Franshhoek were we met two other lads, one of who are joining us on the upcoming Namibia trip.

From there we rode over the Franschhoek pass

and some nice dirt roads

We stopped in McGregor for a nice brunch at a cafe called "Green Gables Country Inn and Village Pub"

Next up was a river crossing. The current was slight but the rocks were slippery. I decided not to paddle through but stood on the pegs and ploughed on. Bad idea! I struck a submerged rock which threw out the front wheel and I found myself suddenly heading upstream!
I turned back to the bank but the loose rocks gave way and I went down like a sack of potatoes. Fortunately I made it to the other side before going down so no water trouble...
Just a minor dent in the header pipe and some shallow scratches on the engine protectors. I felt like a poepol though since I was the only one who dropped it.

Easy does it...

Butch struggling a bit to keep the beast going straight

Powering out of the wet...but not too much or you dig in

That orange headlight apparently draws more attention from the cops than the missing number plate

I owed everyone a beer because I popped my bike's cherry. We stopped of at this friendly bush pub and had a lekker chat with the locals and met up with some other bikers

Thank you that is all

Always good to get the first spill out of the way ASAP.

Next time another rider will be only one that goes down. Happens. No shame in that.

The report also not up to the standards we are used to by LS. :?  His GSA write up will have to be make up for it.

Super trip, a bit short on the follow through though.

So tell me, guys, or should this go under tips, how the hell do you get your boots dry again? Mine are so wet they still drip even though I have them underste bo. I have even tried a hair dryer without much success.

"Quite hiding the bike away in this report, eh?  " said Journeyman. :)  - ag it is just another way of bragging  :)

I'm afraid that it is a wee bit busy at work and I could therefore not elaborate verbally (or is that textually?). I beg your forgiveness.

I shall try to make my Bike Report as thorough as possible and let loose the gab and the quilled hand. Since I can only type with two fingers, I ask you to bare with me at least until Sunday 8)

This device will sort those wet boots out quite nicely. I need to dig mine out of the shed, winter is coming here fairly soon.

Well, I suppose a guy could just tough it out with damp feet....

You could always stick them over the end of the mufflers and rev up the engine for a bit, that would dry them too!
