Got a mint condition 2014 F800GS with 40k on the clock in the shop at the moment. Motor will not turn over and when hitting the happy button, motor makes it half a turn, instrument cluster dies, and then all you hear is a click, click from the starter relay.
Battery, right?
Fit a new, fully charged battery, with exactly the same result.
So, put the bike up on the centerstand, popped it into 6th gear and attempted to rotate the rear wheel to turn the motor over. Almost popped my foofy valve!! Motor is SOLID!!
So this morning I remove the clutch cover to inspect the oil pump gears, and this is what i find.
It would appear that some kind of inspection of this gear is required on a regular basis. It does unfortunately require the removal of the clutch and clutch basket.
