If you take that dirt road from Erasmia towards the back of Schurveberg all the way till you get a T--Junction where you turn left. Around the corner is where you cross the Hennopsriver. We have been there before where we had to turn around cause it was way to full and we didn't want to take any chances.

Hoarusib, Namibia 2003.
My riding buddy Malte insists on doing things in the saddle on his trusty MZ Baghira 660. Note spare tire in case he looses traction. I went next and preferred to stand up going through on the GS650 Dakar. It was a total non event, made more memorable by the last 5 days we had been riding Kaokoland. Late rains for the season had by then necessitated a few prior river crossings so by the time we crossed the Hoarusib for the 3rd time and a few other so called dry rivers it had all become routine. Note - we go with the flow, that way the river pushes you towards your destination.
cheers, Ron

Some of you have seen these before, but I think they're worth posting again here.

First, how not to do it: It was deeper than it looked, and when I hit a rock and put my foot out it went into a hole.

The result
Dive - Dive - Dive!  :imaposer:

Then the drama afterwards

Come on, jou blerrie ding - start!

A few days later I was faced with another deep one. Quite few guys had drowned here to. Walk it or ride it?

Ag, pissies will never be heroes - Ride it!

Avoiding the deep bits and choosing the right line is key.

Woohooo!  Made it!!! The relief!!

A few days later, I thought I should walk this one, as it was very rocky and had a strong current. Later found out Marc Coma also walked it so I felt vindicated.

Note the cameraman lurking for the money shot.

I managed to stall my bike regardless.

Exhausted from pushing,

but I made it, and look back at Laurent Lazard who was trying to dry out his drowned machine.
