Ktm 640 adventure 1999
« on: April 29, 2018, 12:13:18 pm »
I have some questions about this bike. So far this is what I know 50k on clock, dash replaced, top end rebuild done, carb cleaned no rebuild done. Not sure if water pump was done still trying to find out. Selling at a excellent price. What are the other things to look at and what's your opinion on owning it as well as spares? I have done a lot t it reading on advrider.com already. Thanks
Will go where the road takes me

What do you want to use it for? I'm referring to most of the time?

Suzuki DR 650 SE.

1996 and newer.

Stay away from 1998 and 1999, unless it has starter clutch retrofitted.

You can make a small screen yourself. Velcro attached.

I have a 990R KTM and a 500 XCW currently, with a Husky 610 TE.

You'll be crying with repair bills and reliability issues on the 640, regardless of what has been done to this specific bike. The owner has most probably had enough of throughing money at it!

If your off-road is good gravel, a KLR is better for the commute.

It is much heavier than the DR, too much plastic, and for single track a no-go.

DRs crash cheaply. No need for insurance, other than 3rd party, fire and theft. I didn't bother!

The DRs are scarce, but patience will pay off!

I've had for 4 DRs over the past 8 years. Awesome bikes!

Sold the last DR to 0012 recently, for quite a bit more than 30ish.

The DR feels like a small bike vs a KLR or 640 might bother you if you are a big guy, the DRs are bulletproof, klr will probably give you the most bike for what you pay but are limited if you tend to ride fast rough or very technical stuff, if you go for a 640 try and get a newer model (dual disks front) with low kms, the 640adv still stays one of the best dual sport bikes, great suspension, large tank, it will never be as reliable as a DR or KLR but definitely has something special.
Something to think about...
When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept your it. All else is madness.
