My R45's bevel drive has disintegrated. It started knocking and vibrating the vehicle badly when riding at highway speeds, and when I drained the oil found shards of metal. The drive itself won't turn by hand. I haven't dismantled the unit yet to take a look inside, however.
The bike is a relatively low mileage (31,000lm) 1982 model so fatigue seems unlikely. Has anyone had a similar experience? If so did you find the root cause of the failure? I'm nervous to spend a lot of money to put a new one in without understanding why it failed.
Lastly, does anyone have an old R45 bevel drive, they're willing to sell??? I believe it's a 35:9 ratio.
