Multi-function/ purpose power banks ?
« on: May 11, 2018, 09:45:52 am »
Mods please move if this is in the wrong section.

Wondering if there are any 'multi-function' power banks out there with a large capacity. Something that is suitable for charging phones, laptops, torches etc and that could possible jump start a bike? Size is obviously a consideration but not looking at something to fit into a pocket but rather the top box or pannier.

What are technical specs to look out for? I am dof when it comes to electrics and electrical things.
Edit : Is it possible to charge the power bank with a portable solar panel ?

Hi have this model for about 3 years already.  I have jumped my tractors and my ADE236 Cruiser bakkie with it a number of times.  One can probably get better models these days but this one works fine. Comes with a tangle of various adaptors and cables.  Also has a work light and flashing strobes in case your mirror ball goes down during an opskop.  :lol8: I think I paid about R1300 for it back then.  Very handy.

Thanks Dorsland, sounds rather impressive jumping a tractor, is there a specific make name for that jobbie?

we stock and sell the model Dorsland keeps, and can confirm it has jumped started a WIDE variety of many vehicles, including some bigger 4x4's, and as Dorsland says, comes with a WIDE variety of attachments for charging everything under the sun, and some more!  ;D

No idea about solar - RE-charging the device, someone else will have to ask that one!

That looks nice with a compressor too.  Mine doesn't have that though.

I was amazed when it started the tractors.  Much easier than lugging a jump starter or battery and jumper cables around.

Here you go SuzukliDL:

Further to this. I am confused. You get those small pocket things that state they have like 30000mAh https://www.takealot.com/powerbank-30-000-mah-striped-white-grey/PLID46846581?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlqq_-6v92gIVV4jVCh0J0ADLEAQYASABEgI5RvD_BwE wont even jump start a nymph's vibrator and then you get this https://www.batteryexperts.co.za/shop/jump-start-power-bank-cs-01/ with only 8000mAh and it will jump a 3.0L petrol engine.

First there is no chance that first one have 30,000mah of power, no matter how you measure it.  At best 3,000mah for 5V I would guess

The mah also don't mean much if you don't link it to a voltage.  8,000mah is probably claimed at 3.7 volt of the battery/cell they use inside the unit.  With the 5V output you probably have half that.

Example:

Four 18650 batteries of 3.7V and 2,000mah each connected in parallel give 3.7V and 8,000mah.
Same four connected in series gives 14.8V and 2,000mah

Hi man,

I am using this one
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FDYYK4A?ie=UTF8&tag=bestjumpstarterreviewde-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B00FDYYK4A
Jumpstart tested on
- big bore bikes, e.g. BMW’s, KTM’s
- Mitsubishi Colt, Hilux
- keeps my Notebook running, still have to find a workaround to charge a MAC too.

So all in all, happy

Check this one out, R895, https://www.adendorff.co.za/product/mac-afric-li-ion-battery-jump-starter/ - 12 000mAH battery provides a peak output of 600A at 12v to jump vehicles - I believe the trick this are the capacitors - it can also charge phones and laptops and has a flash light. Don't own one but thinking about it.

OK, we stock 2 products now:

the FIRST is R1395, incl vat, and is 'just' the (very strong) Power-bank...

the other one is the 'whole shebang' and is R1895 incl vat, and includes compressor, and many other useful bits...
