Wake up call for us young 'uns.
« on: May 20, 2018, 01:04:49 pm »
Well, Gerald's still a young 'un, just my age. He was brought down recently by a piece of foliage jammed under his front mudguard, but while in recovery had a big heart attack. Put his 'Strom up for sale, but then thought better of it and traded it for a cruiser. Bet that won't suit him for long though.

Then this morning, bumped into Trevor, (83) who told me of his near death experience riding on dirt, which he puts down to the fact that his little 250 encourages him to ride like a madarse and reckons he would have been riding more sedately on his 650.

But what was worrying him, and me when I heard about it was our mutual friend Roy, (80 I think) who, it's said 'didn't stop for long enough' at a stop sign and is now in intensive care with a broken pelvis and a leg that was previously re-built now shattered again, plus other injuries that I haven't yet got full details of.

Seems that those of us who are just transitioning from youth to maturity might need to pause and consider easing off a bit for the sake of our riding future.  :3some:

Brilliant jaybiker, thoroughly enjoyed the read,
love it when the wild of the wild dog manifest in a proper way, especially when it involves the more senior dogs, and when again I get given a reason for wanting to belong to the brotherhood of bikers

Hey Welsh ....us 60 somethings are like the old 40 year olds.
But it is a sobering thought ....we dont bounce that well anymore. And at 80 , I doubt that I will still be riding , let alone still be alive.

Strongs to your friends Jim.

I salute the 80 somethings still riding. :thumleft:
Last year our eldest client/friend passed away at 83. He was still riding.
At 66 he won his age class doing the Roof of Africa.
He and a friend did Salisbury to Cape Town under 24 hours. On a BMW and AJS.

All I can say is they don't make them like that anymore. :deal:

Ignore Jaybiker. He is a senile old fossil, and doesn't know what is saying.

P.S. He rides a huge fat pig 1150. Not even I could pick that up anymore. Hats off sir Jay.  :thumleft:

I AM SO OLD I SOMETIMES FORGET WHAT THE DASH LIGHTS MEAN
What are dash lights?
Old, grey, crafty...

You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas. Enthusiasts are fighters. They have fortitude. They have staying qualities. Enthusiasm is at the bottom of all progress. With it, there is accomplishment. Without it, there are only alibis.

That little 'petrol pump' icon that lights up occasionally. Never needed it before, when I could see into the tank, but nowadays they put rubbish in the way so you can't see.

That's progress, they tell me.  :-\

My mate Stuart Farquharsen is riding down to the Cape for the Ulysses in a week or two on his R1150GS, not even sure how old Stuart is anymore, but he is old.
