Howzit all,

Sitting here thinking about the clutch basket center nut on the XR650L,

For those that don't know, that nut is staked by knocking it out of shape into a grove on the shaft. Honda say it should be unstaked before you remove the nut. Trying to get a screwdriver in there to lift it up seems viable but nerve wrecking, some say it will unstake itself when you turn it off and others suggest that can damage other parts. Could anybody share their experiences with these bikes? Keen to hear how you get it right or got it wrong,

Next question, how do you hold the inner clutch basket on the XR650L to remove and retorque the nut without breaking anything or buying Honda tools?

Perhaps there is a good affordable aftermarket solution or has anybody used any of the DIY methods successfully with this bike? Easy to make some wood or steel to bolt onto the inner but that seems like it's asking for trouble... the official tool clamps onto the outside of the inner hub... so I guess that's where the strength is.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jack
